Head coach of Gambia senior national team Tom Sainfied said he was upset following his side’s home defeat to Togo in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Tuesday.

The Scorpions lost to the Hawks 1-0 in the return leg tie of the continent’s bi-annual biggest football gala qualifiers in the mid-week in Banjul.

Coach Sainfiet stated that his team was playing very well in the first half but were very sloppy in the second half and lose a lot of balls to the Togolese team.

He revealed that it would be very difficult for The Gambia to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations looking at the group’s standings after Benin’s 1-0 home win over Algeria.

Togo head coach Claude le Roy expressed delight with the win over The Gambia in the return leg in Banjul, adding that his side deserved the victory in Banjul after working very hard.

According to Roy, he was not expecting a goal in the game against The Gambia, noting that he was anticipating for a draw.
