Ambassador Ma Jianchun, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to The
Gambia has said that since China and The Gambia resumed diplomatic ties three
years ago, the bilateral cooperation between the two countries has yielded
tremendous fruits over a very short period of time.
Ambassador MA Jianchun made these remarks on Wednesday 10 April 2019 at a reception organised for Gambian media personnel at the Chinese Embassy in Bijilo.
He added that The Gambia adheres to the one-China principle and as such; China is ready to work with The Gambia to continue steering bilateral ties in the right direction, continuously enhance political mutual trust and firmly support each other on issues of core interests and major concerns.
He highlighted that China supports the Gambian government’s efforts in achieving the goals of national development, saying China is willing to enhance pragmatic cooperation and expect exchanges in all areas with The Gambia.
H.E. MA further stated that China’s newly adopted Foreign Investment Law provides an opportunity to further boost the China-Gambia economic ties, saying they warmly welcome The Gambia to participate in and benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative.
He described last month as a busy one for China, as an important annual political event, the “Two Sessions” was held.
The “Two Sessions” refers to the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in which around 3000 NPC deputies and more than 2000 CPPC members gathered in Beijing to discuss major issues and make plans for the future of China.
The Chinese ambassador to The Gambia also took time to talk about the present China economy, saying China has made an economic miracle over the past four decades.
He remarked that today, the Chinese economy has entered a new phase; of transitioning from high-speed growth to high-quality development.
On China’s polices towards future economic development, reform and opening-up, Ambassador MA said China is pressing ahead with supply-side reform, continuing to streamline administration, keeping on building better infrastructure, and accelerating reform related to state-owned assets and enterprises.
On opening-up, he said China will pursue peaceful development through win-win cooperation, uphold fairness and justice, and take the lead in the reform of global governance system.
He announced that so far 124 countries and 29 international organisations have signed the Belt and Road Initiative projects.
He also said that as Africa’s brother and partner, China will always attach particular importance to the needs and interests of African countries, keeping its promise of sincerity, real results, friendship and good faith.
