Early Childhood Educators (ECE) The Gambia on Saturday held a training workshop for 75 teachers on the relationship between parents and teachers at the Adams Kids Nursery School in Serrekunda.

ECE is an organisation comprising all nursery school teachers in The Gambia. One of its main aims is to ensure that nursery teachers are trained at the Gambia College through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Speaking on the programme, Emanuel Omorondion, vice president of ECE, said the training is meant to discuss various ways and means to further improve relationship between parents and teachers.

For there to be strengthened teacher-parent relation, there must be good communication and respect between them, he said.

The vice president of ECE also said all the schools should establish parent-teacher associations because through that there will be cordial relationship between the teachers and parents.

Mr Omorondion explained that in the past, teachers from various schools often complain of how some parents do come to school to shout and bully a teacher.

“This is why we decided to come up with this workshop so that teachers and parents can know each other’s responsibility so as to minimise such incidence to its barest level,” he said.

Mr Omorondion said that very soon the ECE will organise another workshop to reach out to more teachers and parents.

At such trainings, attended by only teachers and parents, topics such as the mode of dressing and attitudes of teachers in schools are also discussed.

All the participants from the training are expected to go back to their schools and communities to ensure there is always cordial relationship and peace between parents and teachers.
