The Gambia has donated medical items to the Ministry of health and Social
Welfare which was donated to them by Heart to Heart Medical Center in
California, United States.
The items, including syringes, canvas, surgical brushes, drugs and surgical equipment and catheters were presented to the Ministry at the Central Medical Store (CMS) at Kotu, meant to complement the Ministry’s efforts in providing quality and affordable health service to all, especially children.
Country director Musukuta Komma said, presenting the medical items was a great pride and happiness to them, saying this is not their first-time intervention to contribute to the country’s health sector. “We have previously supplied health facilities with medicaments, Tom shoes and children clothing. These highly essential packages form part of our countrywide Gift In Kind (GIK) program which is designed to complement government efforts in the health sector.”
She said that the presentation of the items reinforces ChildFund core intention of helping deprived, excluded and vulnerable children to have the capacity to improve their lives and the opportunity to become young adults and leaders who brings lasting and positive change in their communities. “We are of the strongest conviction that these items worth millions of dalasi, will help make a huge difference in seeking to ensure quality, affordable and accessible health care delivery.”
Health ministry’s permanent secretary Mohammed Lamin Jaiteh said that, his ministry is committed and will always strengthen their relationship with ChildFund.
