Child protection committees trained on child rights

Five Community Child Protection and Village Development Committee members drawn from Brikama North constituency on Saturday concluded a two-day training at the Governor’s conference hall in Brikama on the three child rights instruments.

The training was organised by the Child Rights Instruments Agent for Sustainable Change Project under SOS and co-funded by the European Union Gambia Office. A total of 10 participants from Daruhairu, Kembujeh, Kubuneh, Galloya and Serre Kundanding participated in the training.

The lead trainer Yusupha Bojang said the training focused on the translated and final child friendly versions of the three child right instruments namely; Children Act of the Gambia 2005, United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the African Charter on the Right and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC).

He said the overall objective of the project is to promote children rights in The Gambia in ensuring that their rights are respected and fulfilled.

Mamoudou Keita, a trainer also informed participants that the specific objective is to promote greater access, understanding and application of the three child rights instruments in The Gambia at regional, district and community levels.

Participants were given the translated versions of the Children’s Act of the Gambia 2005, United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the African Charter on the Right and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC).
