The Gambia Chess Federation is set to stage its national championship on 20 and 21 February 2016.

English Chief Chess arbiter David Sedgwick is due in The Gambia as guest of the country’s Chess Federation alongwith the president of African Chess Association Luis Nkube from Zambia.

The pair will arrive to help grace competitions being planned by the Gambia Chess Federation to propagate the sport across the country.

“This marks the start of many competitions to be organised by the Gambia Chess Federation. And ahead of that all chess clubs in the country are urged to register with the Gambia Chess Federation at a fee of D300,” Amadou Kanteh, Chess Federation media liaison officer, said.

Deadline for registration is on or before 15 February this year, he added.
