of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Masanneh Kinteh, has promised to
strengthen cooperation between the armed forces and the media.
Lt. General Kinteh made this remark during a visit to the Gambia Press Union on Tuesday to discuss ways of fostering understanding between the two institutions.
“The purpose of our visit is to build the relationship between the media and the security services,” he said, adding that it is important for the two institutions to be having regular dialogue.
The president of Gambia Press Union, Emil Touray, expressed hope that the renewed cooperation between the Gambia Armed Forces and the Gambian press would go a long way in nurturing peace and security in the democratisation process of the country.
For his part, co-publisher of The Point newspaper, Pap Saine, commended the CDS and his team for the historic move to build trust and understanding with Gambian media.
“This is the first time in history that the Gambian media is having direct contact with the CDS to talk about relations between the two institutions,” Mr Saine said.
He assured the CDS of the media’s staunch cooperation and called for regular dialogues to take place in future.
For their part, the editors of Foroyaa, The Standard and The Voice newspapers also commended the move by the CDS to widen media-security cooperation in The Gambia.
