international defender Bubacarr Sanneh has told FC Midtjylland that he wants to
leave the club to join Belgian giants Anderlecht. He said he wants the Danish
champions to accept their latest offer of €6million.
The Scorpions defender who only joined Midtjylland in January 2018 from AC Horsens for €200,000 is growing frustrated at the club’s demands as they try to push the fee higher after rejecting an initial offer of €3.5m which has now been raised to €6m.
“He now hope that his stance will prompt a compromise with Midtjylland in letting him go after the club signed another defender in Alexander Scholz from Belgian side Club Brugge early this week.”
“I have been told that the club does not want to sell me because I am a very important player. It is great to know but I feel that after the acquisition of Alexander Scholz, who has such a high quality, the club will let me go,” the 23-year-old told Ekstra Bladet ahead of his club’s UEFA Europa League 2nd leg match against Welsh side The New Saints, tonight.
He said that was why he is now begging the club to please let him go. “I have been in Denmark now for four years and I see this Anderlecht opportunity as unique for me and my family back home in The Gambia.”
He added: “I have tried to keep it to myself because I know that I have a contract with FC Midtjylland, to which I am bound but I have realized that this is so great an opportunity that I cannot let it go and I will be so disappointed if the club does not let me go because when we spoke during my negotiations to join them, they promised me they will help me in developing and also offer a chance to join a bigger club, which I feel is now.”
The Belgian league has been attractive to clubs in the top five European leagues and the former AC Horsens defender believes it’ll also give him the chance to get closer to his dreams of playing in a major European league, citing compatriot Omar Colley’s move to the Italian league.
“I believe this is my chance of a change that can bring even more to it. There is so much focus on players from Belgium in England, Germany and Italy that I cannot let it slip. My national team partner in Omar Colley went from Djurgården IF to KRC Genk two years ago and now he is in the Serie A with Sampdoria from Belgium.”
Anderlecht coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck is still keen to add another defender and that Bubacarr Sanneh, dubbed Timber, remains high on his wish list.
