Brikama upsets JAKU in Super Nawetan

Brikama, Sunday defeated Jarra and Kiang United (JAKU) 2-1 in the ongoing Africell-sponsored super nawettan competition, played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.

Striker Papis Nyassi nearly opened the scores for Brikama in the 3rd minute of the match after breaking through JAKU defence but his shot was punched away by net-minder Fernando Mendy.

Lamin Sanneh could have gaven JAKU the lead in the 42nd minutes after slashing through Brikama defence but his effort hit the side netting thus the first half ended goalless.

Upon resumption of the match, Brikama organised themselves and piled pressure on JAKU, creating several goal scoring opportunities.

Their efforts yield dividend in the 48th minutes when wing wizard Abdoulie Baldeh netted the opener from close range to send Sateyba fans to jubilation.

Abdoulie Baldeh could have made it 2-0 for Brikama in the 49th minute but his brilliant header went away.

JAKU responded back and leveled matters through striker Lamin Sanneh in the 57th minutes.

Captain Papis snatched the winner for Brikama in the 67th minute to earn the Sateyba boys their first victory of this year’s super nawetan.

Meanwhile, Kombo East thrashed whipping boys Serrekunda Central 3-0 at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium while debutants Kombo Central Two defeated Farato, Busumbala and Yundum (FABY) 3-2 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Kombo Central Two are topping group A with 3 points after one group match followed by defending champions Serrekunda East with 3 points in one game.

Bakau and Farrafenni are both without a point but Farrafenni are yet to play a match in this year’s football championship.

Kombo East are sitting top spot in group B with 3 points after one group match followed by Brikama with 3 points while Foni and Serrekunda Central are both with zero point but Foni are yet to play a game in this year’s super nawettan competition.

Matches continue today across three venues.

Lamin will rub shoulders with Serrekunda West at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda; Banjul will play against Barra, Essau and Mayamba (BEM) at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium while Sanyang will take on Brufut at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
