Gambia’s senior female Scorpions National Team coach Mariam Bom Sowe has dropped striker Fatoumata Gassama from her final squad that would face Nigeria this Wednesday.

Gassama, 23, is a Gambian playing for Swedish 2nd Division side IF Eker Orebro. She was invited to join the team but it appears that Gassama do not impress Coach Sowe. Miss Gassama did play for the team in the double friendlies with Mali.

She was hoping to make her first appearance in a competitive match for The Gambia when the Female Scorpions hosted Nigeria.

The Scorpions will entertain the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the first leg of the African Women Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 6 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The team will play the return leg in Nigeria a week later. The Gambia eliminated Burkina Faso in the first round.

“Football in Sweden is a bit different from how it is played here. But I am catching up. I am very ready to help the team and play for my country of birth,” the 23-year old who was born in Latrikunda Sabiji shared with The Point Sports before her eventual drop from the team.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are expected to arrive in The Gambia today (Monday) for the Wednesday match. The kick-off, according to The Gambia Football Federation is 4:30pm.
