FC has delivered a humiliating 7-6 defeat over Reliance Financial Services FC
in a marathon penalty shoot-out to reach the pending Gunjur knock-out final
following their 1-1 draw in the regulation time in the semifinal played at the
Gunjur Nyamina Football Field on Sunday.
The Gunjur Kulukochi-based football club eliminated the cash dealers in the league competition prior to their weekend semifinal. Reliance Financial Services came all out for revenge to advance to the knock-out final after their exit from the league competition but their hopes were shattered by Blaness.
Blaness opened the scores through striker Yusupha Janneh, alias Del in the 5th minute of the game from an astonishing header to give his side the lead. Reliance Financial Services fought back gallantly for an equaliser but no avail.
When the game resumed after the recess, Reliance Financial Services FC injected in several fresh legs thus dominating the game and creating some clinical goal scoring opportunities.
They leveled scores through defender Fabakary Touray, alias Maxi five minutes before fulltime to cancel Yusupha Janneh, alias Del’s first half strike. This pushed the game into a post-match penalty shootout which ended in favour of Blaness FC.
Blaness FC will now battle it out with either FC Bax or The Pub FC in the knock-out, who will clash in the second semifinal this Sunday.
