Basse Major Health Centre boosted

Maternity ward of Basse major health center have been supported with items, including a freezer, bed sheets, electric bulbs, buckets, broomsticks and detergents, worth more than 20, 000 dalasi by Mansa Jali Movement in collaboration with the town’s young people.

The fund was raised during the community’s annual fundraising festival ‘Nga Sayi Suu’ musical festival which was sponsored by the National Youth Council, Qcell, Basse Area Council and Jah Oil Company Limited.

Bala Musa Kuyateh (alias Bala Ranks), an Afro-Manding musician and founder of the initiative said, this year was the 6th edition of the musical festival which is meant to support the health center’s maternity ward. “The ward has been facing numerous problems in terms of medical equipment and beds and that have affected patients’ access to adequate medical care.”

Officer in charge of the health center Abdoulie Jammeh said Mansa Jali Movement and Basse youths’ annual donation and cleansing exercise has immensely contributed to the development of the health centre for the past 6 years. He said the health centre was awarded as the best performing public hospital during the joint assessment of the ministry of health and social welfare in 2018.

Mamadou Alieu Bah, an executive member of the Movement said over the years, they have provided materials such as solar panels, batteries, inverters, TV screens, electric fans and mattresses to the health Centre.
