Adama Barrow has told Gianni Infantino that The Gambia needs FIFA’s support to
balance its football development agenda.
Mr. Barrow received FIFA’s boss on Monday during his visit to the State House.
He further said it was unfortunate, as The Gambia being a small country with a small economy cannot develop its own football. But he was quick to say that the size of the country doesn’t matter, but what it can do in terms of delivering.
President Barrow being an ardent football fan said that at first, people loved the game that was why they played it. But he added that now football is all about money as well as winning.
He appealed to FIFA to help The Gambia with strong technical team to build the capacity of Gambian football stakeholders as well as its players.
He finally said that as a government, they really want to move the country forward but resources are limited.
For his part, Gianni Infantino, FIFA boss, promised to inject more cash for football development in The Gambia.
He also called on to the Gambian leader to continue supporting football and the Gambia Football Federation in particular.
