Adama Barrow in a major Cabinet reshuffle has appointed Ousainou Darboe, the
minister of Foreign Affairs International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad as
Gambia’s vice president.
Vice President Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang has been redeployed to Foreign Service. She will be serving The Gambia as ambassador to the United Nations.
On the other hand, four ministers including Omar Jallow, known as O.J., minister of Agriculture, Henry Gomez, minister of Youth and Sports, Safie Lowe-Ceesay, minister of Health and Demba Ali Jawo of Information have all been relieved of their of their Cabinet posts. However, Saffie Lowe- Ceesay has been redeployed to foreign service.
The reshuffle also has Ebrima Sillah, the director general of GRTS appointed as Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure; Mambury Njie, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs; Lamin N. Dibba as Minister of Agriculture; Momodou Tangara as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad; Musa Drammeh as Minister of Lands and Regional Government; Amadou Sanneh, as Minister of Trade and Regional Integration; Ministry of Youths and Sports; Hadrammeh Sidibeh; and Dr. Isatou Touray as Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
In a similar vein, President Barrow appointed Henry Gomez as Special Youth adviser to the President.
Mambury Njie, the new Finance minister has worked under Yahya Jammeh and got sacked when he advised Jammeh in August 2012 not to kill the nine inmates because The Gambia had just celebrated Eidul Fitr (‘Koriteh’). With that, he was sacked and detained at the NIA for several months before he was eventually pardoned by Jammeh.
