Football is unarguably the globe’s greatest sporting event. It therefore plays an indispensable role in the development of countries. Apart from being one of the most expensive sport in the world, football is loved and followed by millions across the globe.

As the dust surrounding the ongoing The Gambia Football Federation is yet to settle, the President of the Republic has given his assurance during his recent interview with journalists that his government would not interfere in the administration of football in the country.

That’s really became a good news when he added that it is up to The Gambia Football Federation to resolve the crisis that has gripped the federation. It’s just two days before football stakeholders go for congress to elect the new executive to steer the affairs of The Gambian football in the coming years.

“I don’t want FIFA to suspend The Gambia because of government’s interference. It is not up to government to resolve the crisis at the GFF.” he told journalists in a recent interview.

However, FIFA has a strict principle on the independence of football around the globe. Even though, FIFA welcomes the views of politicians across a broad spectrum but where government directly interferes in the administration of football, such countries faces ban or sanction.

In this connection, governments have a very important role to play in promoting and contributing to the development of football in any country. If there is a good relationship between the government and the national football associations, then there will be very productive results.

This will in-turn help the country achieve its set target goals.  It is high GFF put their house in order for the development of this beautiful sport in our country.

It is well known fact that not only does this beautiful sport provide a basic for physical fitness and healthy living, but it also captures the interest of people from all over the globe of all ages. It is this unique ability to engage people and bring them together that makes sport in generally the perfect game the perfect catalyst for development projects in a range of areas.
