Bantaba lifts SESDO knock-out trophy

Bantaba FC has been crowned champions of Serrekunda East Sport Development Organisation knock-out after beating Ebbeh Gi FC 2-1 in a well-attended final match played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Saturday.

The final attracted hundreds of football enthusiasts from Serrekunda East and its environs. Bantaba FC opened the scores through Celestine Mendy in the 20th minute of the game from a stunning header to give his side the lead.

Musa Kuyateh doubled Bantaba’s lead after the interval from a find strike to dash Ebbeh Gi FC’s hopes of coming back into the game.

Ebbeh Gi responded quickly for an equalizer and managed to pull one back through Sarja Camara in the dying minutes, which eventually proved to be a consolation goal for them.

As champions, Bantaba walked away with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D30, 000 while Ebbeh Gi received D20, 000 as the runners-up.

The Youth and Sport Minister Henry Gomez, Marcel Mendy, executive direction of National Sports Council, GFF president Lamin Kaba Bajo, Gambia Armed Forces former chief of defence staff Lang Tombong Tamba and other dignitaries graced the final.

In a related development, youth and sports minister Gomez decorated Ebbeh GI with a set of jersey and D2, 000 cash amount after the game.
