Banjulinding lays New Mosque foundation stone

The community of Banjulinding, in partnership with members of the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority over the weekend laid the foundation stone of a new mosque at Met Camp in Banjulinding.

The mosque, which could accommodate about 250 worshipers, was sponsored by Imam Sheikh Ebrima Jarju, the 2nd Vice-President of the Gambia Islamic Supreme Council.

The laying of the foundation stone was witnessed by various Imams in Banjulinding, including the Imam Ratib of Banjulinding, representatives from the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, Council of Elders, the youth, women and a cross section of the community.

Speaking at the event, Imam Sheikh Tijan Cham welcomed all those who attended the laying of the foundation stone for the new mosque.

He dilated on the importance of having God house, where Muslim ummah gather to worship the Almighty Allah.

 Imam Cham thanked Imam Ebrima Jarjue for the laudable initiative, saying that the Almighty Allah shall reward him for the deed.

Imam Sheikh Tijan Cham also thanked the Almighty Allah, who created them and blessed them with the opportunity to have a new mosque in the area.

He disclosed that they used to travel long distance to search for a praying ground, but with the support of Imam Sheikh Ebrima Jarju, it would help the said community.

For his part, Sulayman Jabang, Director of Operations at the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, praised the Almighty Allah for giving them the opportunity to witness the day.

 He thanked the sponsor of the mosque, Imam Sheikh Ebrima Jarju and also the community, especially the youth for their active participation in the construction of the mosque.

Also speaking, Imam Malick Ndong thanked Sheikh Ebrima Jarju for sponsoring the mosque, saying it shows the importance and promotion of Islam in society.

He also spoke extensively about the need for people to be God-fearing, saying Muslims should adopt the culture of sharing and caring.

The Imam Ratib of Banjulinding, Imam Yayha Bah, also spoke extensively about the importance of promoting Islam, Islamic values and the importance of erecting mosque in the environment.

He also advised people not only to erect mosque, but to endeavor to observe the five daily prayers and avoid praying at home individually.

He then concluded by urging Muslims to adopt the heart of sharing and caring, love and support for each other, saying the purpose of building a mosque is to ensure that the Muslim faithful pray together.
