Friday, August 14, 2009

Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Alagie Bamba Gassama to four months in prison with hard labour for stealing a bag of cassava, valued at D350.

According to the particulars of the offence, the convict Alagie Bamba Gassama on 8th August 2009, at Bakau Vegetable Garden stole a bag of cassava, valued at D350, being the property of Yassin Jarju, Nato Njie and Ida Bah.

In his judgement, Magistrate Mbacke told the court that the convict deserved some punishment, although he begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

He said the convict was an able body who could learn a trade to make ends meet.

He stated that the convict deserved to be taught a lesson so that he would reform himself.

Following his own plea of guilt to the offence, he was accordingly sentenced.

First Class 2094 Maria was the Prosecuting Officer.
