After
months of preparations, consultations and meetings, the stage is set for the
much-anticipated annual Bajana International Marathon slated for 31st March, at
Bajana village in Foni Berefet District. Organised by the Gambia Volunteers
Trust, the marathon is expected to bring together many athletes from within and
outside the country.
There
will be races in the 5km starting from Besse, 10km starting from Somita and for
the first time, there will be a 42km race from Busumbala. All the races will
finish at the Bajana Nursery School.
Speaking
ahead of the event, Roy Sanyang, founder and chief executive officer of the
Gambia Volunteers Trust and Bajana International Marathon explained that
preparations are in high gear with all the logistic arrangements in place.
The
UK-based Gambian said registration for the marathon closes today (Wednesday) at
6pm at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
Previous
winners of the 5km, 10km and 21km have had the chance to compete in events
abroad in the past. There would be trophies and cash prizes for winners.
