Young people in Babilon Village, Kombo North have recently elected a new Youth and Sports Committee that will steer their affairs. The election held at the village square was attended by a cross section of the young people and some elderly representatives.
Hassim Ceesay was elected as chairman; Bakary Sanneh as vice chairman; Musa Ndow as secretary general; Sutay Sanneh as assistant secretary general; Saikou Jarjue as treasurer; Muhammed Sanyang as Public Relations Officer and Ebrima A.K. Camara as auditor. Fabakary Sabally, Madi Keita and Nuha Ceesay were elected advisers.
Following their election, the committee paid a courtesy call on the Alkalo of the village, Lamin B. Jarjue at his residence where secretary general Musa Ndow informed him of their aims and objectives as well as their immediate and long term plans.
Mr. Ndow used the opportunity to formally introduce the new committee to the Alkalo and also informed him of their upcoming grand football tournament. “We are an independent and non-political sports committee looking forward to cooperation with the Village Development Committee and all the youth of the village to strengthen grassroots sports,” he said.
Alkalo Lamin Jarjue expressed gratitude to the new committee for their commitment to forming a new committee, welcoming and assuring them of his unwavering support at all time.
He said such initiative would contribute significantly to the development of their fast-developingvillage which is currently a home to more than ten thousand inhabitants.
He reminded the new executive committee that transparency and accountability is key to the success of the new responsibility they are undertaking. He also pledged his support to the committee in dispensing their duties in the village.
