Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Africa Youth Coalition against Hunger AYCAH on Saturday April 18th concluded a three day capacity building workshop for some twenty four students from different schools in the country.

The workshop held at the Gambia Christian Council in Kanifing drew its participants from AYCAH school base chapters.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Sanna Bah, National Coordinator of AYCAH, commended the participants for their active participation in all the deliberations.

"If we want to make The Gambia and Africa in general hunger free, it's attainable but it depends on the efforts and commitment implored by the citizenry," he stressed.

"As activists, always look at issues of hunger at family level, country and international levels", he told participants.

Poverty, he said, is a very wicked enemy of mankind. He encouraged the young activists to engage policy makers regarding the plight of vulnerable people particularly hungry women and children.

According to Bah, over the years his organization and Action aid have been advocating for an increase in the budgetary allocation for agriculture and they are also promoting school farms all geared towards attaining food security.

Ansumana M.K Sanneh chairperson of National Association of Youth Against Food Security NAYAFS in Central River Region encouraged the participants to share the knowledge and skills acquired with their friends in the schools.

He reminded the activists that to tackle hunger is a big challenge thus we should be ready to face it.
