Training
manager of African Tax Administrative Forum (ATAF) Caroline Murtaybwa has
commended The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) for what she called its
outstanding effort in the successful hosting and coordination of the ATAF
regional training seminar in The Gambia.
Speaking at the closing of the three-day ATAF
regional seminar at Coco Ocean Hotel in Bijilo, Murtaybwa said the success was
made as a result of good leadership at GRA and cooperation, teamwork,
dedication and commitment of the staff. “ATAF is operating all over the
continent but this is the first time in The Gambia. This regional forum hosted by GRA is unique
among all the other series of trainings we conducted in other member
countries,” she said.
She
commended GRA’s Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe for his foresight and
encouragement towards the successful hosting of the regional seminar. “Hosting
this regional seminar in The Gambia is a big boost for the ATAF secretariat and
we will continue to remember The Gambian hospitality.”
Murtaybwa
also dilated on the significance of capacity building, saying ATAF’s main
objective is to build the capacity of its members. She appealed to participants
to ensure utilizing the knowledge they gained from the training, as it was a
platform for sharing experiences and learning for better improvement at their
work places. She also appealed to all
the heads of revenue Authorities across the continent to encourage and nominate
more participants to attend this kind of forum, which she said is a rare
opportunity.
She
said ATAF is currently preparing for the General Assembly in Botswana in
October which, she said is one of their major events and participants should be
well informed by their country correspondent. “I will further appeal to the
participants to engage the country correspondents so that they will get
informed and share the information to the rest of the staff to better prepare
them.”
