Assistant referee sustains injury in Serrekunda derby brawl

An assistant referee, whose name could not be established by our reporter, has sustained serious injury at the Serrekunda derby clash between Serrekunda East and West played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Sunday,.

The assistant referee was stoned by an unidentified person on his head who is believed to be a Serrekunda West fan, when central referee Maudo Jallow awarded a penalty to Serrekunda East in the 90th minute.

Central referee Jallow blew the final whistle after the assistant referee finished receiving treatment from medics for what is believed to be on security reasons.  Soon after bringing the match to an end, some section of the Serrekunda West fans started stoning Serrekunda East team and fans.

Serrekunda East beat Serrekunda West’s 10-man team as Ablie Manneh notched a brace in the 76th and 85th minutes of the game respectively to advance to the quarterfinal where they will play against Jarra and Kiang United (JAKU).
