Assan Ceesay’s dual fires Gambia win over Morocco in int’l friendly

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

Striker Assan Ceesay’s double has inspired the Gambia to a 2-1 victory over the Morocco CHAN team in an international friendly match played in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday evening.

The Gambia’s international friendly against Morocco CHAN team was part of their preparations for their crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at home to Algeria in March 2018 in Banjul.

Coach Sang Ndong’s charges played without the services of several key players such as Modou Secka Barrrow, Mustapha Carayol and Bubacarr Steve Trawally for the international friendly clash with the Moroccans, who are preparing to host the 2018 CHAN competition.

Former Gamtel striker Assan Ceesay’s brace in the game sent The Gambia to a hard-fought win over their Moroccan counterparts.

The Gambia are currently sitting bottom-place in group D of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with no points, after losing to Benin 1-0 in the opening match of the qualifiers in June 2017 in Cotonou.

The Scorpions needs a victory against the Algerians in their second group D fixtures in March 2017 to raise their hopes of qualifying for their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations.
