Assan Ceesay’s assault earns Gambia point against Togo

Monday, October 15, 2018

Prolific striker Assan Ceesay’s 4th minute strike salvaged a point for The Gambia against Togo in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Scorpions held the Hawks to a 1-1 draw in the continent’s biggest football jamboree match played at the Stade Municipal in Tome on Friday.

The Gambia opened the scores through prolific striker Assan Ceesay in the 4th minute of the game to give the Scorpions the lead. Ceesay’s goal was his second goal for The Gambia in the qualifiers after netting the equaliser for the Scorpions against Algeria last month in Banjul.

The Togolese responded back quickly for an equalizer and crafted some goal scoring opportunities but couldn’t break through Gambia’s solid defence thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the Scorpions.

Upon resumption of the game, the Hawks reorganized themselves in the midfield and attacked The Gambia, thus leveling matters in the 84th minute of the game to share the points.

Togo and The Gambia have both secured 2 points each in group D after drawing two games in the qualifiers campaign. The Gambia will welcome Togo in the return leg tomorrow Tuesday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
