side ASC Constantine has defeated Gambian champions Gamtel by 1-0 in the Banjul
return-leg of the 2018-2019 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions
league clash at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, yesterday. The win credited
the Algerian side the move to progress to the next round of the CAF
confederation cup preliminary round.
The game was a ‘must’ win for the telecommunication giants to enable them cruise to second round of the continent’s elite football club competition after their goalless draw the Algerians but their hopes were shattered in the yesterday encounter.
The Algerian club’s favourite position in the game was a score draw but their struggle proved to be stronger than Gamtel’s, leading them with just a humiliating 1-0 defeat.
ASC Constantine’s 25-year-old attacker Abdelfetah Ismail Belkacemi’s lone goal in the first half of the game was enough to seal the deal for ASC Constantine, leaving Gamtel in unsuccessful goal struggle until regulation time.
The Telecommunication giants secured a famous goalless draw against ASC Constantine in the first-leg played in Algiers last week.
