Armed Forces held San-Pedro in CAF Confederation first leg

Thursday, November 29, 2018

Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Tuesday held San-Pedro to a 1-1 defeat in the first leg of the Confederation of African Football (GAF) preliminary round played in Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan.

They took the lead in the 74th minute through Samsideen Badjie’s wonderful strike, while the Ivorian side forced the game into a draw through Franck Carlos Zouzou’s 89th minute goal.

The Gambia FA cup champions will be looking forward to book their place for the first time in to CAF Confederation group stages when they draw goalless or beat the Côte d’Ivoire team in Banjul in the return leg, next week.

GAF won the GFF FA cup tournament last season while the Ivorian team San-Pedro also won the last season’s Ivorian FA cup tournament.

No Gambian team has ever qualified to the group stages of CAF competitions (Champions league or Confederation cup) but if both GAF and Gamtel FC wins their return leg match here at home, they will be the first Gambian club teams to ever book places to the CAF competitions.
