APRC Won Nianija By-election

Monday, December 22, 2008

The race for the much talked about National Assembly by-election in Nianija constituency has finally come to an end when the ruling APRC party, previous holders of the seat regain its former seat in last Thursday's election.

The elections, which was described as free and fair following peaceful campaign by both opposing sides, follows the expulsion of Mr. Dawda Manneh, the erstwhile National Assembly Member for the said constituency from the ruling APRC party on whose ticket he was elected to the National Assembly.

According to our correspondent in the Central River Region, the election was free and fair.

Official results from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), which was declared by its Chairman Alhagi Mustapha Carayol has it that the APRC candidate Yaya Whan polled 1507 votes whilst Mrs Salla York polled 974.

Mr Whan of the ruling APRC party was thus duly elected Member of the National Assembly for Nianija constituency.
