recently elected Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC)
party ward councilor for Bundung six-junction ward Sulayman Jammeh has
challenged Gambian politicians to be sincere to the country and their
electorates, saying the country is bigger than any one of them.
Mr. Jammeh said despite their different political affiliations, politicians should put The Gambia first before any other thing, calling on them to stop pursuing self or party interest alone.
Speaking to his electorates at his Bundung residence recently, Mr. Jammeh thanked them for the trust and confidence they bestowed on him to re-elect him into office to represent them in the Kanifing Municipal Council for second time.
He appealed to politicians to work for the betterment of the country, saying as representatives of the people, they need to live up to expectation rather than making empty promises and noises.
Mr. Jammeh said during his first term, he did not depending on Council support but he lobbied for projects both nationally and internationally and that was why he was able to install stand taps in Bundung. “Today, the community of Bundung is blessed with access to clean drinking water.”
He said his aim now is to do more than before and he will work extensively to ensure that at least every house has access to tap water or for every fifty meters, there will be a stand tap for water.
He also called on his opponents to come together and work for the interest of the people of Bundung despite their political affiliation, saying politics is over and is now time for action. He also promised to closely work with his opponents by absorbing them into the Bundung ward Development Committee. “We have an open door policy as development oriented people of this country. We do not only depend on mere talk but implementation with action.”
