africa » gambia
Monday, April 20, 2009

One Tijan Janha has been remanded in custody following a charge of threatening violence and assault on a police officer Alagie Keita.

He is alleged to have attacked Alagie Keita on 9th April 2009 at New Jeshwang. He however denied the charge.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the accused on or about 9th April 2009 at New Jeshwang in the compound where one Muhammed Lamin Kebbeh operates a shop, threatened to attack the said Momodou Lamin Kebbeh.

On count two, on the same day and place, the accused willfully and unlawfully assaulted a police officer, First Class 3222 Alagie Keita, in the course of due execution of his duty.

In remanding the accused, Magistrate Mbackeh said the accused should be kept away to maintain the peace because he had become a nuisance to his neighbours.

He added that the offences that the accused was charged with were serious and the court was not prepared to take any chance in granting him bail, as he might carry out his threats during the period he is under bail.

The case was then adjourned until 4th May 2009 for full hearing.
