Alleged drugs case continues

The trial of one Omar Bojang, who is being tried for alleged possession of three packets of suspected cannabis, continued recently at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Tabally.

Testifying for the prosecution, Modou Lamin Sanyang, a narcotics officer posted to Bakoteh Police Station, told the court that on 25 February 2011 he received information that the accused was involved in the cannabis business.

He added that after receiving the information, he  led a team of officers to the accused person’s house, where they conducted a search in the presence of the accused person’s wife.

He said the accused ran away and his wife was arrested and taken to Bakoteh police station, after recovering the three packets of suspected cannabis.

He adduced further that the accused later surrendered him to the station, and his wife was released.

According to the charge sheet, on 25th February 2011 at Bakoteh in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused person, Omar Bojang, was found in possession of three packets of suspected cannabis, and thereby committed an offence.
