A 64th  minute strike by Alda Mendy has sent Serrekunda East to the semifinal of the 2017 Fibank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan.

The 2014 Super Nawettan champions beat Bakau 1-0 in the quarterfinal match played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on Tuesday.

Serrekunda East finished as group C winners with 4 points, after their 1-1 draw with debutants Kombo East before their slender 1-0 win over Brufut prior to their last eight tie with Bakau, who finished runners-up in group A with 7 points, following their goalless draw with the champions Gunjur before defeating Lamin and Serrekunda Central 1-0 respectively.

It was not an easy road for Serrekunda East and Bakau as both sides played defensive and offensive football but the first half failed to produce a goal.

Serrekunda East opened the account through Alda Mendy in the 64th minute of the game, which eventually proved to the winner for Easterners.

Bakau responded quickly for an equalizer but it was to no avail thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Serrekunda East.

As the time of going to the press, the third quarterfinal match between Banjul and Sukuta was in progress at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Elsewhere, BEM was also playing against Brikama in the fourth quarterfinal, at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda.
