Aid Gambia is a UK charity helping Gambian children to a brighter future.
We are delighted to announce the recipient of our first Health Professional Scholarship for 2019, Aja Sawaneh.
Aja comes from Kanifing Municipality and is a graduate student from Nusrat Senior Secondary School in Bundung. She is starting her university course on Monday 14th January 2019, at The American International University - West Africa and is on a 3 Year program studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. We will be paying Aja’s full tuition fees for her three-year course, amounting to £5,252.11 in total.
Aja was accepted for AIUWA on 18th December 2018, but was unable to accept the place like many Gambian students because of financial circumstances. She had heard about our child education sponsorship schemes, and applied for our Further Education scholarship for funding for the 3-year course to help her to continue her studies. Aja was selected out of a vast number of candidates, as her application stood out from the rest. She demonstrated excellent perseverance and dedication to her work, as well as being compassionate and devoted to her family and wider community.
Mr Karamo S. Bojang, Principal of Nusrat Senior Secondary School, gave Aja a glowing reference, saying that she was a deserving student who had always demonstrated a love for learning and had shown the level of commitment necessary to succeed.
Aja said, “This scholarship is a blessing for me, because not only is it helping me with University but it’s a token of appreciation from God. I am very honored to be getting the award. Receiving this scholarship means I have succeeded, and it will benefit me greatly to have this financial aid. A lot of people say there isn’t any help out there, but this shows that there is help out there.
This scholarship also means the hard work has really paid off, especially from my family who have supported me from the beginning. So I am going to do the best I can to make everyone proud and make sure I give back to the community. I would like to thank my mother for believing in me and showing me the right way.”
We congratulate Aja on winning this scholarship, and wish her all the very best with her Nursing course which starts today.
