Agriculture minister Amie Fabureh, last week commenced a nationwide tour of regional agriculture offices, including meetings with extension workers, stakeholders and governors.

Officials of the ministry say the tour would enable the minister to gather first-hand information on agricultural development in the rural Gambia. Her deputy permanent secretary, Project Directors, technicians, director of finance at the Central Projects Coordinating Unit (CPCU) and National Assembly members, accompanies the minister.

Speaking at the first meeting point at Barra in the North Bank Region, Minister Fabureh expressed disaffection over the recent reduction in agriculture production in The Gambia.

She said even though that there is just some few months before the rainy season, her office will ensure that fertilizer and seeds are provided to farmers on time.

Governor Ebrima Dampha reminded regional agricultural directors and their staff that they must work beyond stipulated time if they are ready to help Gambia in her achievement of food self-sufficiency drives.

Governor Dampha also challenged agricultural technicians to refrain from politics and work in the best interest of Gambian people, particularly the farmers.
