A Bright Future!

The Baby Scorpions of The Gambia have booked their place in the finals of the ongoing 8th CAF U-17 Championship in Algeria after a 4-0 thrashing of Malawi in the semi-final clash in Zeralda yesterday. What a source of great pride and pleasure these young men are for our nation at this time. They are flying the flag of The Gambia high at the championships and giving us the real impression that the future of Gambian football is very bright indeed.

On many occasions in the past we have expressed concern at the ability of Gambian teams to score goals in vital games but these young men have shown they are lethal in front of the goal with their performances in the tournament so far and their thrashing of Malawi yesterday.

This wonderful trend is coupled with the fact that the Scorpions are yet to concede at the championship. This strength in defence is essential for future success and coupled with our boy's prowess up front makes for a tantalizing combination.

It was with the greatest of pride that we read the report on our latest victory on the CAF website. It says, "The victory confirms the Baby Scorpions as one of the emerging giants of youth football on the continent, and sets the stage for the final."

This is not praise for ourselves this is recognition from football experts all over this great continent. We thank all those who have supported and continue to support the Baby Scorpions and look forward with great eagerness to not only the remainder of this tournament but the forthcoming world cup. The future is bright for Gambian football, Go Scorpions!!
