8 candidates to contest for Banjul Mayoral Seat

At least eight candidates have lined up to race for mayoral seat in Gambia’s capital city Banjul in the May 12 Local Government elections.

Rumours earlier rife that one of the contestants Adama Hala Samba has withdrawn his bid for the race but in a recent press conference, Mr. Samba said he was fit, confident and ready to compete.

According to information, the outgoing Mayor Abdoulie Bah; current general manager of independence Stadium in Bakau, Ebou Faye and Adama Hala Samba will be contesting under independent tickets while Rohey Lowe will be the flag bearer of United Democratic Party (UDP).

Bai Malleh Wadda, Lizzie Eunson and Paul Bass will also contest under independent tickets and Pa Njie–Shorty will vie under the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC).

“I wish to inform the general public that there is no iota of truth in the said disparaging remarks as I am ever more determined to enter the contest for the Banjul mayoral seat under an independent candidate ticket,” Mr. Samba told journalists.

He said he and his team are well determined to bringing the much needed development to the people of the capital city.
