78 GAMTEL Security Guards Trained on Fire Safety

At least 78 security guards of GAMTEL drawn across the Greater Banjul Area recently completed a two-week long training on fire safety.

The training, conducted by the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services covered areas such as intensive fire fighting and evacuation procedures among others.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Morr Jarju, Senior Manager, Security at GAMTEL reminded the gathering of the recent fire outbreak at GAMTEL head office and Brikama. This, he said, has prompted the management to avoid further occurrence by training the security guards in fire fighting to enable them work more effectively in case of any outbreak.

He described the training as timely and important, noting that it will equip them in executing their duties. He said that similar trainings will continue to enable others benefit from it.

For his part, Mr Pierre Cherry, Director of Corporate Affairs on behalf of the managing director expressed GAMTEL's resolve to always train its security guards on fire safety.

He noted that the training will go a long way in helping GAMTEL in preventing fire outbreaks. The training, he added, will help the security guards to respond to any emergency.

Ebrima Sonko, Commander of Fire Service Training School urged the beneficiaries of the training to utilize the knowledge gained from the training.

According to him, the participants demonstrated good skills during the training. Others speakers include Amadou Touray, Public Relation Officer at GAMTEL, and Ebrima Mballow who spoke on behalf of the security guards. He urged other institutions to emulate Gamtel.
