5th Edition of the Wellingara Noran football competition over the weekend
kicked-off at the community football field.
The competition, organised by the Wellingara Youth Development Sport Committee attracted ten teams.
In the opening encounter of the tournament, Wellingara Miami FC locked horns with Edean Boarder FC of Fajikunda, with the game ending 2-1 in favour of Wellingara Miami FC.
In declaring the competition open, the National Assembly Member for Old Yundum Constituency, Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, expressed appreciation and joy of being associated with the tournament.
“I am very impressed with the solidarity that the Wellingara Youth Development Sport Committee has demonstrated in organising this 5th Edition of Noran tournament,” he said.
He admitted that starting the competition five years ago was not easy; thankfully, the community has produced good players who are currently playing both nationally and internationally.
He described the achievement as a big boost for the residents of Wellingara, particularly the youth.
He expressed his readiness to continue giving his best to the community, youth and committee in ensuring that football competitions and other development activities become the order of the day in Wellingara.
Hon. Ceesay pointed out that his aim was to bring the youth together and organise tournaments, adding that he was always proud to be associated with initiatives that bring unity and development.
He stated that there are plans in the offing for a three-day interaction with the youth, in order to pave the way forward for the best interest of sport.
Hon. Ceesay advised teams to be united, despite bearing different names or coming from different areas to compete in the tournament, and urged them to accept defeat in good faith and show high sense of discipline throughout the competition, saying: “football without discipline is not football.”
