Fifty households affected by this year’s windstorm and flood within the West Coast Region were on Sunday supported with food and non-food items in a ceremony held at the regional disaster coordinating office in Brikama.

The support provided by the Government of The Gambia, UNFPA and Petro Gas included bags of rice, onions, black pepper, and tomato paste and corrugated iron sheets.

Speaking at the distribution, the West Coast Region disaster coordinator, Binta Sey Jadama, commended partners for the support, saying their intervention would help reduce the burden on beneficiaries.

She spoke of her office’s resolve in working closely with partners to respond appropriately to disaster resilience and mitigation while commending the government of The Gambia under leadership of President Barrow for showing great concern to the welfare of the affected people.

Madam Sey Jadama further thanked Petro Gas for fulfilling one of their corporate responsibilities and underscored NDMA readiness to change their strategies to risk reduction, preparedness and disaster mitigation.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Kasse Manneh of Burufut and Kajali Saidykhan of Old Yundum, both expressed gratitude to the donors for the support.

According to them, the support has come at a time when they needed it most, adding that it would go a long way in uplifting their living conditions.
