Central River Region’s disaster management committee on Saturday distributed food and non-food items to forty-eight households that were hit by fire, flood and windstorm disasters in Nyangen, Sankulay Kunda, Kudang and Dankunku held in Janjangbureh.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the regional disaster management coordinator Bubacarr Fofana said the distributed items were donated by United Arab Emirates (UAE) which includes rice, vegetable oil and second hand clothing.

He said fire outbreaks, flooding and windstorms were the serious disasters during last rainy season within the region which destroyed shelters and valuable items including foodstuff, cooking utensils and clothing.

Mr. Fofana said the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in collaboration with the European Union has established a project called Drainage, Sanitation and Waste Management Systems in the hotspot communities to prevent flooding. “The overall objective is to improve the living conditions and health of the most vulnerable population by mitigating the impact of future heavy rains”, he said.
