least 45 agricultural experts within the Ministry of Agriculture, who were
dismissed, arrested and charged with various crimes under the Jammeh regime,
will soon be reinstated back into the public service to help Gambians benefit
from their wealth of experiences.
These remarks by the Minister came on the heels of comments made by him to promote the drive for self-sufficiency, a vision he said, should be attainable in two years.
The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Omar Jallow, has assured that the new government will never engage in such random and uncalculated dismissal of members of its staff without any genuine reasons, as seen under the Jammeh regime.
“The 45 agricultural officials were one of the most qualified personnel the sector can boast of, as they were running most of the regional departments to strengthen the sector,” OJ said.
He said the ministry would endeavour to ensure that they bring them back to make agriculture a vibrant sector, citing the importance of having agricultural technicians in the overall national food self-sufficiency drive.
