A total of forty-two Police Intervention Unit –PIU- officers has graduated from a ten-day training course on protection of important facilities against terrorism provided by Turkey; one of Gambia’s close allies since the time of the country’s former president.

The graduation ceremony was held at the PIU headquarters in Kanifing. The course was coordinated by the Turkish Department of Protection in the context of international cooperation on police training.

The 10 days training course was based on risk analysis, security system and police equipment, weapon knowledge, search and police control, patrolling service, check points and security precautions.

Deputy Commissioner of PIU Omar Darbo said the training was part of the bilateral relationship between Banjul and Ankara, saying he is hopeful that the training will efficiently help the officers in their work as VIP or body guard securities. “We hope that the relationship will continue to be strong,” he said.

Malick Touray, one of the trainees in his vote of thanks said the training was an opportunity for them. He thanked the course leaders and assured them that the training will greatly help them in their work.
