2nd NIA suspects’ trial stalled

The criminal trial involving eight former NIA officials could not proceed yesterday, 3rd of May, 2018, before presiding Judge Sainabou W. Cisse of the High Court in Banjul due to the none appearance of a State counsel.

The matter was scheduled for mention as the State had on the last adjourned date sought for an adjournment to advise itself on the matter.

The suspects are charged with two counts of conspiracy to murder and accessory after the fact to murder of Ebrima Solo Sandeng alleged to have been murdered on the 15th of April, 2016.

The eight suspects are Quassy Mendy, Leon Gomez, Lamin Bojang alias Kambakal, Malafi Jarjue, Bakary Jammeh, Ansumana Manga, Mamodou Badjie and Yankuba Colley.

The statement of offence on count one stated conspiracy to murder contrary to Section 204 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

The particulars of offence disclosed that on or about the 15th of April, 2016, in Banjul and in diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, agreed among themselves to cause the death of Ebrima Solo Sandeng and thereby committed an offence.

On count two, the statement of offence stated accessory after the fact to murder contrary to Section 202 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

The particulars of offence stated that the suspects on or about the 15th of April, 2016 in Banjul and in diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, having known that Yankuba Badjie, Louie Richard Leese Gomez, Saihou Omar Jeng alias Sheikh Omar Jeng or Sir Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansary and Lamin Darboe allegedly caused the death of Ebrima Solo Sandeng, assisted Yankuba Badjie, Louie Richard Leese Gomez, Saihou Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah,Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansary and Lamin Darboe to dispose of the body of Ebrima Solo Sandeng with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of Yankuba Badjie, Loiue Richard Leese Gomez, Saihou Omarr Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansary and Lamin Darboe and thereby committed an offence.

Meanwhile the matter was adjourned to the 17th May, 2018.
