21 households in KM receive material aid

The Kanifing Municipality Disaster Management Committee (KMDMC) last week presented food and non-food materials to 21 households representing 242 persons within the municipality.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the KMC grounds, Duwa Jatta the director of Administration KMC who spoke on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of KMC, Mustapha Njie, extended his council’s sympathy to the families.

According to hum, prior to the event, a good number of flood victims visited his council seeking help and was happy to see them receiving the materials.

Musa Mendy, chairman of the Kanifing Municipal Disaster Management Committee welcomed the beneficiaries on behalf of the committee, and advised them to make the best use of the materials given to them by his committee.

Sheriff Sarr councilor of Old Jeshwang Ward who deputized for the mayor of the Kanifing Municipality also informed the beneficiaries that the materials given to them cannot cover their damage, but will help them in easing their sufferings.

He thanked the communities for their intervention and appealed to them to continue the effort so that they can quickly respond to Disaster Risk Reduction when it occurs.

The materials presented were 18 bags of rice 50 kg, 3 bags of rice 25 kg, 19 bucket of ECHO hygiene, 2 bucket of UNFPA hygiene, 210 bars soap (SSS), 21 sets of hygiene kits, 21 cartoon of Mana pack rice, 21 mosquito coils and 21 javel bleach (1 liter), 21 Boal bleach (1 liter), 105 liters of oil and 21 bail of old second-hand clothes.

The presentation ceremony was chaired by Alhaji Mustapha Saine a member of the KMDMC, and attended by other KMC officials who also advised the beneficiaries to take good care of the materials given to them.
