Bai Ousman Secka, Batata Juwara Trial Continues

The trial of the two former senior officials at the Department of State for Foreign Affairs Bai Ousman Secka and Muhammed Batata Juwara continued yesterday at the Banjul Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Lamin George.

In court yesterday, the state witness Bakary Malick Houma continued his testimony under cross-examination by the leading defence counsel Awa Sisay Sabally.
Mr Houma, Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure, told the court that according to the information he got from officials of the Work Department, Balla Garba Jumpha was once a Secretary of State of that Department.

As to who assigned a driver to the current SOS of that Department he responded that it was the said Department that did. He said the driver was assigned through the normal recruitment process; engaged and issued an appointment letter and it was done through administration process.

It could be recalled that the two former senior Government officials are standing trial on charges of conspiracy, making false documents and abuse of office.

The case was adjourned until 18thNovember 2008.
