20 senior government officials from different government ministries were
recently trained on policy analysis and use of evidence. The four-day capacity
building synergy was held at the Management Development Institute.
The training was designed to ensure that participants understand the importance of decision-making, as well as discuss in broad terms policy analysis as far as government policies are concerned.
Sillah Conateh, Coordinator at the Management Development Institute (MDI) and programme officer, emphasised that the programme was based on policy analysis and the use of evidence.
“In terms of policy making, we centralise it to the government, but people at the level of deputy permanent secretaries are very well critical in implementing policies.”
Conateh described the training as a successful and very interactive session, saying they had very good facilitators, who brought and shared with the participants their expertise in terms of policy-making.
“We hope that when the participants go back to their respective sectors, they would have active interest in the policies discussed. MDI has interest in organising programmes in different sectors of government and private sectors” he added.
Adama Jimba Jobe, deputy permanent secretary and programme officer at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and a participant at the event, described the training as crucial and refreshing, acknowledging that sometimes people forget some important aspects that should not be left out in making decisions. But this training, he added, had reminded participants a lot in that regard and even policies that should be backed with evidence.
