Cassava Thief Jailed

19-year-old Saikou Trawally was on 6th January 2009 convicted and sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour for stealing one bag of cassava.

According to the particulars of the offence on 3rd January 2009 at Jalanba village the convict stole a bag of cassava valued at D3500 being the property of one Peter Gomez.

According to the facts as presented by 1st class 2294 Jammeh on 3rd January 2009, the accused was seen by Luis Correa jumping over the fence to a cassava farm. He said Correa confronted the accused and he told him that the farm belonged to his father. Later it was discovered that the farm in fact belonged to Peter Gomez, adding that the accused was arrested and taken to the police station where he was cautioned and charged.
