Welfare Advocate Association at The Gambia College vaccinated 150 animals in
Upper River Region (URR) recently during their one week sensitisation tour in
The president of the association Lamin F. Fatty said the theme for the year’s tour is: Building Resilience of Communities Through Animal Welfare Advocacy. He added that the animal welfare association has successfully sensitised many communities in URR.
Mr. Fatty said during the outreach, 150 animals received vaccination from the advocators by giving them medicines like antibiotics, multivitamin and dewormer.
Modou Dumbuya, a lecturer at The Gambia College School of Agriculture called on the farmers in URR to make the best use of the sensitisation in order to take care of their animals as vaccination will prevent sickness particularly during the raining season.
Faburama Ceesay, a beneficiary, thanked the animal welfare advocators for a job well done in eight (8) communities in the course of one week. He assured that the knowledge they get from the association will be put into good use for the betterment of the animals.
Ceesay, finally urged the government of the Gambia through the Ministry of Agriculture to put more effort into animal husbandry, pointing out that agricultural activities do not only stop at farming. He challenge the youth to venture into animal husbandry as an alternative source of income and self employment for their wellbeing and the betterment of the country.
