A
special flight – Germania Airline from the Federal Republic of Germany landed
at the Banjul International Airport carrying on board 15 Gambian deportees. The
plane also landed with some 46 Nigerians, Government Spokesperson Ebrima
Sankareh confirmed to The Point.
“The
46 Nigerians proceeded to their home country, while Gambians were received by
immigration official at the Banjul International airport,” Mr. Sankareh said.
He
added that some where received by their family members; and those whose family
members couldn’t make it to the airport were escorted by immigration officials
to their homes. Also, escorts from the International Office for Migration(IOM)
gave each deportee €60 as taxi fares.
The
IOM has also earmarked a reintegration package for the detainees to be trained
in useful skills.
Anita
Martin, honorary consul of Germany in The Gambia said these people who have
been deported did not regularise their status.
