14 retired teachers honoured

At least fourteen retired teachers in Region 2 have been awarded with certificates in recognition of their selfless services to the Ministry of Education.

The award is part of Region 2 education directorate’s 2017 annual teacher award. It was organised in collaboration with The Gambia Teachers Union (GTU) regional branches and the upper basic school conference of principals.

Alieu Saine, GTU regional chairman acknowledged that the valuable contribution of retired teachers’ to the country’s education sector and individuals would forever be remembered. “Thank you for your inspiration to all, young and old.”

He said throughout their stay in the field, they have worked so hard to provide a happy life, saying, “You’ve been there to help and give us useful advice and you did all these without discrimination, which of course is one of the attributes of good colleagues.”

He described the retired teachers as exceptional teachers, who were highly committed to promoting discipline and excellence in the education sector.  “Thank you all for your help, support, guidance, and cooperation over the years. Your outstanding advice and effort towards bringing out the best in us are immeasurable.”

Chairman of upper basic schools conference of principals Muhammed F. Jabbi thanked the retired teachers for the commitment, dedication, devotion and sacrifice they have rendered to the education sector. Honoring them with an award, he said, is worthy as they have devoted all their life to helping the improvement of the education sector.
